Children's Art Exhibition.
On the 1st of July we held our bi- annual children's exhibition and it
was a great success once again, with approximately 60 children exhibiting
mosaics and papier-mache models that were made in Term 2.
The children loved showing off their artwork, with parents, aunties
and grandparents coming from far and wide. The mosaic tiles looked
amazing and so professional. And it was without having much practical
experience Belinda and I took on the adventure of mosaics with hundreds of broken coloured and white tiles, smashed china plates and fairy stones in order to show just how clever our children can be, given the opportunity.
Each child created their mosaic from a design of their choosing onto a large floor
tile:- House numbers, chicken, flowers, cats, rainbows and free flowing designs were all very popular.

Also the children were encouraged to contribute to a larger scale project of various sizes of garden pots which were sold by silent auction to raise money for 'Youth Off The Streets Charity'. $178.00
was raised from the sale of these 3 beautiful pots.
Also in the exhibition were 60 amazing papier-mache models made from
recycled materials. The models took shape from cereal packets and yogurt cartons, to become weird and wacky creatures of colour and character. To name a few, we had Mr Tornado Man, a TV man with legs
and arms and his own remote control and a long legged tripod, triffid/war of the world’s type creature that held a fishing rod and his catch.

This term we will be showing the children Modern Artists such as Jackson Pollock, Sidney Nolan, Roy Lichtenstein and Frida Kahlo.
Parents have told me that they are amazed when the children identify
an artist that has been covered in class when it comes up on TV or in a newspaper. We think that it is wonderful to be able to watch the abundant and boundless creativity of each child to come out and to let them be the masters of their worlds with these art classes.
I have taken a step back from the children's art classes due to business commitments and have been lucky enough to have Catherine OLeary take over my Monday afternoon class. Catherine studied Fine Art photography and Graphics in Melbourne and worked at the Herald as a
graphic artist for 10 years. I am sure that the children will love what she does.
Please feel free to pop into the children's studio anytime, you will be amazed!
Yours creatively,
Roo Guthrie.
