President’s Report 2011

Congratulations all round, to winners and participating artists and thank you to all who gave their valuable time in the staging of the KAS exhibition. All went smoothly and I would like to pass on to members the numerous compliments we received from sponsors, artists, judges, members and the public re the high standard of paintings displayed and the pleasant ambience of the exhibition. The atmosphere throughout was enthusiastic and the camaraderie between all was evident. All of the above resulted in a very successful exhibition.

Twenty-seven paintings were sold to the value of $14,215, which included 6 children’s paintings. What a thrill for the children. Of the other 21, 12 were by 9 KAS members.  KAS member Brett McGrath won the People’s Choice. (A list of all awards is elsewhere in this newsletter.)

The new stands were met with approval by all, with many favourable comments, especially from the hangers.

The committee unanimously passed the motion agreeing to the purchase of 18 more stands at this week’s meeting. This means the stands inthe centre of the auditorium will all be uniform. The money in fixed deposit has always been earmarked for new stands, with foresight from previous committees, and added to each year. The old stands now are some 25 years old; many we have put new feet on this year, and some are beyond repair.

To be sure of matching the colour of the material for the stands, we

needed to make a decision quickly. We experienced problems in availability choosing the colour for the stands this year. As you know, in this day and age, colours and lines get discontinued all too quickly.

Next year’s exhibition will be September 7th -16th 2012.             The Leagues Club is already booked.

If anybody would like to help as a ‘buddy’ towards assisting in some small way in the running of the exhibition, please, don’t hesitate to ring.
